Commissioning an Original Artwork
How to Begin: You may already have an idea for a subject, or you may want something similar to an artwork I have already made, just in a different size or color, or you may want to browse through my portfolio for inspiration. As you do, let me know what you like most about any of the pieces: images, themes, details, colors.... Do you prefer warm earth tones, or calm, cool tones? Certain moods or seasons? A lot of texture, antiquing and distressing, or just a little? If you want your artwork to coordinate with existing elements in your room, color swatches and photo references are essential. If you are local, I can visit your home to measure and view the location. Pictures of other art or designs that you like can be helpful, but it is important to remember that the art I create for you will be an original, interpreted and painted for you in my own style. Even if I am re-interpreting my own past artwork, the results will still be unique, and different from the original in delightfully unpredictable ways. But if you like my past and present work, then you can have confidence that you will be happy with the artwork I create for you in the future!
How to Proceed: When you have chosen to commission me, I will provide an estimated cost, completion date, and payment schedule. A deposit, 50% of the total, is requested before I begin work. You will be able to approve a watercolor sketch of the composition before the actual painting begins. I can adapt any minor changes easily at this stage, but requests for significant changes during the painting process may require a revised estimate. When i feel that the painting is complete, at a good stage for viewing, or I need feedback from you before continuing, I can email photos, bring the artwork to your home, or you can visit my studio, depending on locations and schedules. Only when you are completely happy with your new original artwork will the balance be due, and it will be prepared and delivered to enjoy in your home!
